NaNoWriMo 2012

Okay, so I don’t really have the time for NaNoWriMo this year, but I’m going to attempt it anyway.  It’s been one of those years in which very little has gone the way it should, maybe I can at least get “the words” to cooperate just this once.

I should be guided by common sense and continue with The Three Deaths of Piper Gwyn, but there are several reasons why that’s not going to happen.  Mainly because it’s near the end and certainly doesn’t have another 50,000 words in it, but also because I think that something fresh might help inspire the ending of that novel more than just trudging it towards the end.

And so, I’m going to begin work on Those Who Would Die.  A slight change from being a direct sequel to Clipped Wings and The Abandoned, I intend to challenge myself with an anthology-style novel.  This will be a typical full-length novel but, instead of just being broken up into chapters, this will be broken up into bite-sized chunks – almost “episodes”, if you like.  Each chunk will consist of three smaller parts/chapters (beginning, middle, and end), and each chunk will form part of the novel.  The difference with the usual chapters is that each chunk won’t necessarily lead into the next.  One chunk may take place in the past, or the future, another may take place on some alien world, while another still will involve completely different characters.

Whether all of these chunks will combine to create the best novel in the universe, or the equivalent of those chunks you find in tins of dog food, remains to be seen.  If I don’t try it, I won’t know.

Wish me luck!
