From season four of The Adventures of Superboy comes The Kryptonite Kid starring Gerard Christopher as Superboy / Clark Kent and Stacy Haiduk as Lana Lang.  The episode opens with a scientist trying to partially neutralise Kryptonite to make it safe for Superboy, but the experiment goes awry and a young man becomes infected.

This gives the young man powers against which Superboy has no defence.  Fortunately, help comes in the hand of a Superboy-lookalike who uses his similarities to the hero to earn “money to kiss Superboy” (only women, though!).

Being such a short episode makes it difficult to go into much depth, but there’s a lot here to see.  The tragedy of the “kryptonite kid” who isn’t a bad person.  The con-man exploiting his Superboy-looks becoming the hero.  And Superboy trying to find a solution that isn’t all about superpowers.

Not a story that could stretch far beyond the duration, although an exploration of Gerard Christopher’s dual role as the lookalike does warrant more time, but still good to watch.
