It was a cold, but at least not raining, morning when I set off to Greenwich park at 8am. The actual MoRun began at 10am, but you have to have time to get your number, pin it on, bag drop, toilet, photos, get lined up, etc…, which meant leaving at least 2hrs ahead of time.
Took a little longer to run the 12.5km there than I’d expected, not least due to having run 15 miles yesterday and that the journey to Greenwich park takes in the pretty steep Shooter’s Hill that my quads were just not up to today.
Occasional spots of sunlight helped keep the chill off, but I still ended up with cold fingers. Fortunately, I had my heated gloves with me that I obtained this week (in memory of last year’s fingers-agony winter runs). The gloves have a pocket for a heat pack (a hand warmer) in the back, which helps keep the hands alive if not the fingers. Worst bit was standing around waiting in the toilet queue but, fortunately, my gloves also operate under battery power. I switched that on to its highest setting and soon had nicely warm hands.
I knew I wasn’t going to run the MoRun particularly fast, what with all the running I’d done before hand and running with the giant ‘tashe, but a 10Km time of 46:33 isn’t terrible given the hills in Greenwich park, as can be seen on the elevation map.
I’ll be adding more photos to the gallery as they become available. The giant ‘tashe caught a lot of attention. Lots of people remarked on it, and laughed. Many people (other runners, and spectators) commented on the “Big Tashe Man”.
Oh, and it appears that wearing a stupidly-long silly mo-tashe makes you uncannily attractive to the opposite sex. (Well, two young ladies did ask if I would pose with them for a photo! I was quite chuffed with that. )
They did a competition for “fancy dress” before the event started, but I didn’t participate because I didn’t think that just putting on a cheap tashe constituted a “fancy dress” but, as it turned out, I’d been spotted and when I crossed the finish line, I got a second (special) MoRun medal.
