NaNoWriMo 2014, Day 9

Today, with more than a little help from the NaNoWriMo Kent Facebook Group, I doubled my previous word count and sneaked over the 10,000 word line.

Whether that means I did good today, or that I just did badly for the last eight days, I’m not so sure.

Words have been difficult over the last few days, and almost impossible to get onto the page in any reasonably coherent sense.  FNaNo2014_progress_day09or today’s desperate dash to make it seem like the daily word count isn’t “just something other people hit”, I fell back on that old reliable word producer – the action scene.

Skipping from “Sebastian’s Story’, which was more about character development and character introduction, to “Nick’s Story” enabled today’s 5,000+ words.  Here we have a scene of high action (well, I’m leading up to it!), which should segue quite nicely into “Mindy’s Story”.  Oh, yes, what will happen when Nick discovers that Mindy is still alive?  I think we already know the answer to that.  I’ll find out for sure later in the week.

Just yesterday, it occurred to me that I don’t need each of these segments to mesh together at the end of each segment.  Instead, it might be better to mix and merge them about a little bit.  I just hope that doesn’t turn this “story of five quite sensible and logical parts” into a “story of one massive incoherent mess”.

Time will tell, though.  With NaNoWriMo, it usually does.
