It’s been a long month, with many things distracting me away from NaNoWriMo, but today, two days early, I’ve achieved what I thought, on many occasions, was the impossible this year.  I’ve written 50,000 words.

Almost completing “Nick’s Story”, the segment of the currently-named-and-may-be-retitled work-in-progress The Curupiri Elixir, that’s an additional 50,000 words to this “story of five parts” that I didn’t have just one month ago.  To say that this segment went the way I’d intended would be incorrect.  I didn’t really know where this story was going, except that it would be set on the moon and involve aliens.  As it turned out, several unexpected plot twists presented new avenues to explore.

“Nick’s Story” needs an awful lot of work before it’ll be ready to integrate with the other stories.  It’s probably too long, and there are some required plot elements that are missing, but it’s do-able.  My first task, though, will be to finish the ending.

More mundane things, like work, and life, are likely to slow further progress on the story (it always does), but I would like to at least reach the end of this part before putting it to one side for awhile.

Final word count as of validation was 50,265 (as counted in Scrivener), which validated at 50,123 – a warning to always write a couple of hundred extra words before validating, just to be sure…

Right, so what about NaNoWriMo 2015?
