Doctor Who, season 3 continues …
As one of the many episodes of early Doctor Who that are missing from the BBC archives, I watched this episode thanks to an animated version discovered on the internet.
Two spacefarers are mending their ship on the planet Kembel, whilst being stalk by the Varga. One of the travellers reveals to the other that he’s a Space Security Agent, working on a hunch that the Daleks are on Kembel and are planning something big.
For an episode that doesn’t really do much, it’s a great one to watch. A big improvement over Galaxy 4 even though the regulars don’t appear in the episode.
The plot poses some questions, such as why conquerors from far galaxies need to team-up with the Daleks to set their sights on Earth’s solar system, and Earth itself. Already having control of many galaxies means they must already have more solar systems under their power than they can wave a stick at. I get the sense that the writer was being liberal with the words “galaxy”, “solar system”, and “universe”, in this one.
This animated version, more a cartoon style than the previous CGI episodes, is easier to watch due to the artistic representations of the characters looking at least somewhat like the characters they’re meant to me. It helps, though, that the regular characters aren’t in the episodes as the depiction of these is the main issue with the CGI version.
Next time … Temple of Secrets
