Doctor Who, season 5 continues …

This is the only episode of The Abominable Snowmen that survives in the BBC archives.  Being fairly early in the story is both a blessing and a curse.  It’s early enough that you really haven’t missed much that you can’t figure out, but it’s not late enough to explain some of the mysteries (like the mysterious voice that speaks to the Abbot).

There’s enough here to get a good feel of the episode, though, with some nice location footage that just about makes for satisfactory mountains (if you put your critical disbelief away in a shoebox somewhere and hide it out of sight).  I think it helps that it’s in black & white for that.

We get a good example here of Jamie looking out for Victoria (a little bit at odds with Victoria being “okay” in the absence of either Jamie or the Doctor in the previous story, but it works better for the character).
