UNIT 1.2 : Snake Head

UNIT : SNAKE HEAD

Siri O’Neal and Nicholas Deal are back as Colonel Emily Chaudhry and Colonel Robert Dalton in the second of Big Finish‘s full UNIT adventures, Snake Head by Jonathan Clements.

A gruesome dead body found on Government land sees Chaudhry and Dalton investigating an archaeological dig that leads them to investigating a mystery of illegal immigrants and an invisible Kosovan vampire.

Despite being written and directed by different people to the previous story, Time Heals, UNIT: Snake Head plays out just the same.  As with the previous story, we have a couple of unengaging leads, naive dialogue, and a 20-minute story stretched out to an hour.

On the plus side, there isn’t as much mind-rattling gunfire and fights as before and, much as we miss the presence of Nicholas Courtney, there’s much less of the short-scene cuts to other short-scenes that make it annoying to follow the narrative.

I can’t help but feel that a series of UNIT adventures should really involve the original TV characters and the stories should be giving us insights into their backgrounds, fleshing out the characters we’re much more familiar with.  As it stands, these UNIT stories leave you with a sense of unfulfilled potential.
