The second of Big Finish‘s Fourth Doctor Adventures, from early 2012, has more of a standalone feel than the previous outing Destination: Nerva and doesn’t try to follow on from a previous story. It is clearly set in the “4th Doctor & Leela” time prior to K9, so it’s still set between seasons 14 and 15.
The story is a much more intriguing one than the previous one. The two-part format prevents it from going off at too much of a tangent, which pretty much means everything you hear has something to do with the story. It still allows for some moments of humour, however.
The first episode tells of the Doctor taking Leela to a museum as part of his attempt at “educating the savage”, only the museum doesn’t seem like any regular museum. It’s called a “collection”, owned by a man who no one (except the Doctor & Leela) recognise when he turns up as a policeman to investigate a suicide/murder.
The “collection” has a number of gaps in it, except that it then doesn’t have those gaps…
The episode ends with the Doctor & Leela on the run, accused of the murder of the apparent suicide victim.
So far, I would recommend this one over the previous one.
